Magnolia Officinalis Bark Extract

What is this known for?

Magnolia has been used in traditional herbal medicine for centuries to support a calm and positive mood, relaxation, immunity, and stress and weight management.

Why are we using it in Power Off?

Function #1: The Honokiol in Magnolia stimulates sleep-promoting neurons in the brain.

Honokiol modulates GABA, which is responsible for stimulating the sleep-promoting area of the brain called the VLPO. Honkiol also increases the activity of GABA-A receptors, which causes an inhibitory effect on neurotransmitters by decreasing the chances for nerve impulses. Both of these mechanisms promotes a calming response in the brain and help shorten the amount of time it takes to fall asleep.

Function #2: Magnolia may offer neuroprotective effects by reducing free radicals in the brain.

Too much free radical activity can upset functions performed by membranes in the brain. Magnolia has been found to reduce radical oxygen species, and has been studied specifically in the context of decreasing the rate of neuronal cell death in-vitro.

Function #3: Magnolia helps modulate acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that plays a role in attention and memory.

Excessive acetylcholinerase activity leads to an acetylcholine deficiency, which may affect memory. Magnolia Officinalis helps inhibit acetylcholinerase activity.
